Samsung TV: Ana Ivonovic and Junior Dos Santos in 6 different languages

A great project brought in by SF agency EVB (Evolution Bureau). After three days, we had recorded scripts for 5 different videos in 6 different languages: English, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Latin American Spanish and European Spanish. I added a good deal of sound design on top of the project started by One Union Recording engineer Joaby Deal, which was fun especially over the long animated section at the end. Everything had to be funny but not obliterate the voice over, which was really where we spent most of our time in the session. This many videos in all these languages is a lot of work and a lot of organization. Scripts never come out to the same time when translated, so there were lots of compromises in the VO as we went through everything. Below is the Junior Dos Santos version, which has much more sound design and "dialog." Check out the Ana Ivonovic version, and see all the videos live in the Samsung Facebook app, where all the international versions are hosted in their different languages.

Cicada Princess: Magical fairytale now online

This is one of the most magical projects I have ever been a part of. Produced during 2012, it was finished and released to festivals all over the country in 2013 including BAM Cinematek, Cinequest, South by Southwest, and SF International Film Festival. I had the pleasure of recording British comedian, actor and overall superb human Stephen Fry as he read the voice over for the film. The sound design took a few weeks, and the final mix was supervised by director Mauricio "Mauchi" Baiocchi and composer Jesse Clark. This is some of my best work to date. I was in the booth recording foley of dirt crumbling in my hands, metal scraping together, and pieces of scotch tape flapping together like wings. Tons of the finest SF Bay Area talent worked on this amazing piece -- camera operators, model builders, and puppeteers. It was an amazing team. It recently got some press on io9.com now that it is finally viewable on the small screen. I definitely hope the team sticks together and continues more amazing work like Cicada Princess! Mauchi is definitely a talented guy, and someone you want to keep your eye on.

Blue Diamond Almonds presents: The US Olympic Ski & Snowboard team

I had the pleasure of mixing this cinematic piece for Blue Diamond Almonds, produced by Jeremy Summer of Y&R San Francisco. I added a good deal of sound design to the excellent work already placed by editor Nathan Petty. It was nice to have some creative freedom on this project. For a corporate video, it is not very sell-y. We got to be very dramatic and emphasize the story and the people rather than the product. Special effects, dreamy sound design and emotional music composition added to the documentary style dialog mix.

Skype: "The Born Friends," lovely and emotional...

When I started mixing this series of videos for SF agency Pereira & O'Dell, I knew right away it was going to be the most emotional piece I've ever worked on to date. It took a few hours of mixing before I could get through it without choking up! We tell a story of two best friends, in Indiana USA and New Zealand, who have never met except over Skype. They both grew up with the same unique life challenges, and so when they finally get a chance to meet in person, well, it's flat-out tear-jerking. The :60 version also appeared on a dramatic episode of the Katie Couric show where Sarah was again surprised by a visit from her best friend Paige live on the show. Technically, the documentary format presents its own audio challenges, mixing audio from tons of different locations and editing dialog from "real people," giving unrehearsed testimonials. A lot of background noise filtering, the subtle addition of ambience sound effects and music balancing. We also earned AdWeek's Ad of the Day on Nov 4, 2013.

Ubisoft: Rocksmith 2014

This is the launch video for Ubisoft's amazing new guitar-training video game. Featuring Alice In Chains rocker Jerry Cantrell, as well as a handful of impressive testimonials. We also mixed individual videos for each of their star pupils: Brian, Trevor, Casey, Jayme, Aaron, Ross, and a concise :60 TV spot.

EA / Battlefield 4: Testimonial Videos - Intense!

These videos were produced by SF agency Draft FCB to promote the upcoming EA release BATTLEFIELD 4. In addition to a long trailer cut for Gamescom in Germany, I mixed a handful of these testimonial videos... and more are on the way! The agency collected the top players of Battlefield 3, and got them together for some brand new combat. All the players seem very excited about the game! We mixed these videos to convey the intensity of gameplay, without compromising the dialog. The intro and outro sounds were designed to also be intense, chaotic, and futuristic.

Skype "Stay Together Stories"

San Francisco agency Pereira & O'Dell took on this great project for Skype, filming both sides of an international video chat and telling the story of people who stay connected over great distances. I mixed the videos for Lindsey and Julie. The Lindsey video is great because of all the Australian animals! For this piece, we actually recorded voice-over from Lindsey and mixed it with her on-camera monologue.
Check out the Skype homepage for this campaign to learn more, and watch videos from the other "portraits."

Mike Rowe My Life!

Mike is a regular at One Union Recording. I've recorded his voiceover for hundreds of episodes of Dirty Jobs, Deadliest Catch, and all kinds of commercials, mini-series and specials. Lately he's been producing a ton of content for his thousands of Facebook fans, and now he's got an idea for a new series - Mike Rowe My Life. Inviting his fans to submit their own banal life videos, the theory is that solid VO (and sound design!) can spice up anything. He's already got 10,000 views on this baby in less than a week, and I can be seen in the "making of" video. Definitely had a lot of fun with the sound and music, all original - to essentially mock the over-dramatic Deadliest Catch style. Lots of commenters are giving props to the Wilhelm Scream at the very end! It's nice to be noticed.

Innovator's Accelerator - Online lecture series from University of Phoenix

University of Phoenix produced this amazing online course about the business of innovation, based on long-format videos featuring Clayton Christensen, Jeffrey Dyer, and Hal Gregersen. Tons of amazing 3D graphics were added around the lecturers during their presentation to enhance the topics and make the material more compelling and entertaining! I got to sound design all that animation. I used Xpand2 in Pro-Tools, and also my favorite iPad app - the MOOG Animoog. I produced over 100 sounds for almost 4 hours of video.

Tori Spelling for Glad Bag

Ad Agency EVB took Glad's reality show "The Wild Life" to the next level with a gossip-filled behind-the-scenes look at the characters, hosted by Tori Spelling! She was a lot of fun to record and brought a definite element of cute humor to the project. Read about it at EVB's Blog. Some press: Media Bistro / Best Ads On TV
(There used to be a YouTube video here, but now it's gone - watch the spots on EVB'S BLOG)

Robo-tripping PSA with tons of teenagers barfing

I worked with DDBSF on these amazing PSA videos about the dangers of Robo-tripping, and mixed their Interactive Web Application that incorporates the user's Facebook information (photos, location, friends, music tastes...) into a virtual experience... of getting wasted and barfing all over everyone at a party. Pretty funny spending all week mixing these videos - hundreds of BARF shots, over and over again. I have an iron stomach! The campaign attracted some attention: Online Nigeria / The SF Egotist / Osocio / Jazarah / Hello You Creatives / I Believe In Advertising

The PIMA Great Paper Airplane Project

Agency BBDO-SF built a campaign to support the PIMA Air and Space Museum in Arizona. They had a paper airplane flying contest, and the winning child got to help construct the world's biggest paper airplane, and then fly it over the Arizona desert! I mixed a series of videos for The Great Paper Airplane Project, including the initial promotional videos, and the final story of the giant airplane. The whole thing got a lot of attention: Gizmodo / Huffington Post / CNet .

Ozgood: Sloppy barfing monster app for iPad!

Yep, there's an app for that. I sound designed and mixed a series of promotional videos for this new app, and they've all done pretty well on Funny or Die. You can find Ozgood in The Apple App Store, and see for yourself what the heck the whole thing is about. Funny videos! Definitely high viral-ability.

Chevy Sonic Street Art Robot with Jeff Soto

I worked on a few of these Chevy Sonic videos for Goodby, Silverstein and Partners. The campaign featured these cars doing all kinds of crazy stunts. In this video, they installed a tablet-controlled art robot that artist Jeff Soto controlled to paint this wall! Some cool buzz: Complex Art+Design / Arrested Motion

American Pet Products Association Web Videos

I mixed these spots for The American Pet Products Association. A good amount of the material they filmed was improvised by these small teams of comedians. So the result was some really funny, dynamic stuff but my work was mainly cleaning up the edits and mixing deliveries from lots of different takes. Check out EVB's story about the campaign, and watch the other spots in the campaign.

Escapsim - Awesome original music

UPDATE: This piece has now gotten over 200,000 views!
My friend Barry Munsterteiger is a biker and video producer, put this piece together with our friend Colin Ducey who has some crazy car-crane system for his camera. They got some great sounds recorded on-location and so the sound design was really fun to put together. Barry originally had a Radiohead song in place during the rough edit, and I composed this original piece in the same mood. I've gotten a lot of great feedback about the music in this video! A lot of positive viewer comments - although a few of the gear-heads have also commented "less music, more engine!"

HALO 4 Trailer for E3

I worked with Agency 215 on the trailer for the latest HALO episode, Halo 4: Awakening. The trailer debuted at E3 this year, and naturally racked up millions of views on YouTube. Very creative spot that took a long time to really nail the sound design and music levels. Exciting video with impressive animation. Some good press: Creativity Online / Feed The Mob

HELP! Remedies

I worked with Agency 215 to create this series of "Dream Scenarios" to promote their sleep aid medication. Totally psychedelic, funny and creative. The dreams live on the company's Dream Recommender. There's a whole bunch of them, I've attached one below.
Their unusual wackiness brought in a lot of press: Media Bistro / Feed The Mob / Ads Of The World / Trust Collective / Best Ads On TV / We Love Ad
