Mind City Terror: Epic short kaiju film! Monster vs Robot.

Mind City Terror has been a long time coming! The Kickstarter began almost 3 years ago and the film has finally had its debut and is finding its way around the indie festival circuit! It was a real thrill to see and hear this epic battle projected in 5.1 surround sound at the Castro Theater in San Francisco last year. I spent a long time designing sounds for the robot and the monster, recording a good deal of new foley and combining it with special SFX packs director Curtis Jaeger had purchased for me to use exclusively on the project. You can follow announcements about the film, read recent reviews (they're positive!) and more at the MCT Facebook Page.

Thrill Factor: Recording Kari Byron & Tori Belleci

Kari and Tory from Mythbusters are back on TV with this "thrilling" look at the science behind thrill rides and roller-coasters. They both came in to One Union for a few days each to record the voiceover narration for the season, which premiers August 12th on the Travel Channel! Fun fact: I first worked with Tori in 2011 on a 48 Hour Film Race submission called "Button Man."

Bitcoin: The End Of Money As We Know It

It was an honor to work with director Torsten Hoffman on this hour long documentary exploring the nature and history of money, and how Bitcoin fits into the world of modern finance. As an enthusiast, I am always seeking out Bitcoin-related projects that need audio work, and this film has been on my radar since their Kickstarter was funded last year. If you've never given any thought to where our money comes from, what it's real value is, or who decides what it's worth, this is a good premier for you. If you've heard about Bitcoin but don't "get the point of it," this documentary will illustrate how much something like Bitcoin is needed today! Featuring interviews with a ton of the greatest minds in the space, this film has been highly anticipated in the community.

The film is already screening at film festivals around the world, picking up laurels and recognition. Learn more at the film's website: http://theendofmoneyasweknowit.com/ You can watch the trailer below, or click the "purchase" button to watch the full program on Vimeo. You can also buy the movie with Bitcoin! Click here to buy with Bitcoin on TheProtocol.tv.

11 Life Lessons from an Awesome Old Dyke: a charming, short documentary

I met writer/director Allison Khoury at One Union Recording Studios producing ads, and I was proud to join her team on her first film project. The story of her dear departed friend is charming and funny and illustrates the struggle of minority gender rights over the past three or four decades. The film is composed of old interview footage, relevant stock footage and voice over. I recorded Allison reading her script and together we sweetened the archival footage and added some cute sound effects. Look for this film at Frameline 39 - San Francisco's international LGBT film festival. Enjoy the trailer below, and follow the movie at their official website: http://www.awesomeolddyke.com/

Game of Thrones! ADR session with Michiel Huisman as Daario Naharis

It was an honor to record replacement dialog for one of my favorite shows this week! We worked on 4 episodes from the end of the season and so on a few story lines, I've been spoiled, but it was worth it. Michiel was in San Francisco to attend the Season 5 premiere event.

Sensitive 70s Turtleneck Tough Guys! Amazing short action/comedy film

Writer/director team Jose Montesinos and Brett Stillo put together this hilarious 70's exploitation satire based on the cliché of the tough cop. Imagine Charles Bronson or Shaft with a crippling sensitive side. I participated in multiple departments of this effort: I played guitar on the score (edited and composed by Brian Rodvien), designed the sound and mix, and even played a role! Yes... that's me getting blasted into the swimming pool. Watch the FULL SHORT FILM below, and follow the movie (and possibly the SERIES!) on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SensitiveTurtleneckmovie

Unlucky Stars: Action-packed full-length feature!

This movie has a long story behind it: we started filming in 2010! The crew behind the film are all good friends of mine, including writer / director / co-star Dennis Ruel. I actually have a few on-camera cameos myself! Dennis and I spent a lot of time on the sound design and mix - sound effects are critical in an action sequence to "sell" the audience on all those hits. Unlucky Stars is guaranteed to delight all fans of the Bruce Lee / Jackie Chan action/comedy genre, as it is chock-full of references and inside jokes from dozens of its famous (and not-so-famous) predecessors. The film has already had a generous helping of positive reviews, has seen a few film festivals, and is currently under negotiation for distribution. Watch the trailer below (which I also mixed) and follow the movie at the official website: http://www.unluckystarsthemovie.com/

Mike Rowe! VO record for brand new TV series "Somebody's Gotta Do It" on CNN

I have been recording voiceover with Mike for almost as long as I've been employed at One Union Recording. As an SF local, he's a regular at our studio and we've worked together on Dirty Jobs, Deadliest Catch, a dozen specials like How The Universe Works, Planet Earth, and several other amusing series like The Ultimate Fighter and Ghost Hunters. Today we recorded the voiceover for the very first episode of his brand new series, airing on CNN this fall: Somebody's Gotta Do It. Read CNN's official press release, or Mike's personal blog announcing the new series. It's exciting to see Mike back on TV showing America what kind of work gets done out there, as he and The MikeRoweWorks Foundation continue to change the national dialog about work. Go Mike!

George Takei! VO record for "Takei's Take" Webseries

I was honored to record voiceover with George Takei for his new webseries, sponsored by AARP. George was in San Francisco for Pride Weekend, and specifically for the Frameline LGBT Film Festival, where he was given an award for his Documentary "To Be Takei." The man is truly charming and a sincere pleasure to work with! Here's the first video of the Boston episode, below. We also recorded VO for three other videos in the Boston episode: two / three / four.

Sounds Like a Showdown! (Short film)

At One Union Recording, many clients don't realize we can do sound design as well as just mixing. We decided to produce a series of short films that would highlight sound design. For this piece, I hired my friend Baxter Smith and his Soul Fire Pictures to produce a modern-age western-themed sound design showdown. Starring two of One Union's former interns: Craig Northrop and Elliott Peltzman from The Stone Foxes. The juxtaposition between raw crappy built-in mic camera audio and pristine post-production sound design should drive home the point that "Sound Design makes you awesome!" Baxter and I also composed the score together.

ADR and VO this month: Connie Nielsen and Dennis Haysbert

This month I had the pleasure of working with two great actors in the studio. Dennis Haysbert and Connie Nielsen. Dennis was recording VO for, of course, Allstate Insurance. Connie was recording ADR for her sinister character Lily in the series "The Following."

Cicada Princess: Magical fairytale now online

This is one of the most magical projects I have ever been a part of. Produced during 2012, it was finished and released to festivals all over the country in 2013 including BAM Cinematek, Cinequest, South by Southwest, and SF International Film Festival. I had the pleasure of recording British comedian, actor and overall superb human Stephen Fry as he read the voice over for the film. The sound design took a few weeks, and the final mix was supervised by director Mauricio "Mauchi" Baiocchi and composer Jesse Clark. This is some of my best work to date. I was in the booth recording foley of dirt crumbling in my hands, metal scraping together, and pieces of scotch tape flapping together like wings. Tons of the finest SF Bay Area talent worked on this amazing piece -- camera operators, model builders, and puppeteers. It was an amazing team. It recently got some press on io9.com now that it is finally viewable on the small screen. I definitely hope the team sticks together and continues more amazing work like Cicada Princess! Mauchi is definitely a talented guy, and someone you want to keep your eye on.

Blue Diamond Almonds presents: The US Olympic Ski & Snowboard team

I had the pleasure of mixing this cinematic piece for Blue Diamond Almonds, produced by Jeremy Summer of Y&R San Francisco. I added a good deal of sound design to the excellent work already placed by editor Nathan Petty. It was nice to have some creative freedom on this project. For a corporate video, it is not very sell-y. We got to be very dramatic and emphasize the story and the people rather than the product. Special effects, dreamy sound design and emotional music composition added to the documentary style dialog mix.

Metallica: Through the Never, ADR with the band!

I had the honor and the pleasure to record three of the most world-famous rock musicians in history, and be a part of their new 3D IMAX film: Metallica! The crew was here at One Union Recording for two days and we recorded additional dialog lines from James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, and Kirk Hammett. All the guys were great to work with and it was very exciting to be a part of their creative process. I met their audio post production crew, including director Nimrod Antal and music mixing engineer Greg Fidelman, who takes credit for many of the bands recent albums. SoundWorks Collection ran a story about the film and was kind enough to include me on the credits.

Strings (Short film): A psychedelic, modern western

This was my first project with San Francisco writer / director Baxter Smith and his Soul Fire Pictures. A western theme, set in modern times, with a David Lynch sort of twist that makes everything deep and mysterious, but also funny and brilliant. This film was featured in Action On Film festival in LA. Not only did I provide sound design and mix, but Baxter and I also composed most of the music together. We produced sound-alikes for the radio sequence, and also score for other parts of the film. The on-set recordist did an excellent job getting footsteps and wild sounds of all those amazing vintage guns. Due to the minimal dialog, this film was more about creativity and less about fixing production problems. A real treat I enjoy watching again and again!

ADR with John Leguizamo for new series on ABC

I had the pleasure of working with John Leguizamo today on the pilot episode for a new series on ABC. John is in San Francisco performing at our local Orpheum Theater. It looks like a funny show! And he is a great comedian. Read about the new show on the ABC All Access page, and a press release on Huffington Post.

VO with Skyler Samuels for NBC pilot

Skyler is enrolled at Stanford University, and came up to San Francisco to record voice-over for the pilot episode of a new series for NBC. She plays the young descendant of an ancient warrior people, and the show tells the story of her struggling with her identity in modern times. Read the press release. The pilot is also getting fan attention already through it's Facebook page.

Fruitvale ADR

I had the pleasure of working with first-time feature film director Ryan Coogler and his sound team from Skywalker Sound, recording all the dialog replacement for the upcoming release. The film is great, dramatic and very touching. There's no trailer or official webpage yet, but the press is all over this film. Here's Fruitvale's IMDB Page, and Facebook Page. UPDATE: Fruitvale swept everyone off their feet at Sundance Film Festival, and scored a $2.5 Million distribution deal with the Weinsteins! Very Exciting!

The First Out: Trailer

This is going to be a very important film - the story of the first openly gay baseball player. It's actually not a true story, because no major league athlete has ever "come out" in the US. So my friend, Director Josh Porter, has an opportunity to make a big impact with this film. This trailer has already made a few rounds on the film's KickStarter page, and homepage, as they meet investors.

Jonathan Pryce for GI JOE: Retaliation

I had the pleasure of working with Jonathan Pryce on the next GI JOE movie. We were recording dialog replacement for the a scene near the end of the movie! It was very exciting. Non-disclosur-ifically exciting!
