Home Advisor: "Listings" TV
I had a great time working with Duncan / Channon to produce this funny effects-driven TV spot. There's a lot of magic going on here! Transition shots, practical effects and foley, and of course the holographic 3D interface the main woman interacts with. We wanted a tone that was futuristic but not too much like Star Trek, and sounded like how it looked. Simple!

Cheeteau: April Fools!
I love cheese! So I was happy when Goodby, Silverstein and Partners brought this silly project in to One Union. Nothing especially complicated or challenging about this mix, but it is truly spectacular :-) and almost 2 million views! Visit the "official" Cheeteau website for more "information."

Samsung TV: Ana Ivonovic and Junior Dos Santos in 6 different languages
A great project brought in by SF agency EVB (Evolution Bureau). After three days, we had recorded scripts for 5 different videos in 6 different languages: English, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Latin American Spanish and European Spanish. I added a good deal of sound design on top of the project started by One Union Recording engineer Joaby Deal, which was fun especially over the long animated section at the end. Everything had to be funny but not obliterate the voice over, which was really where we spent most of our time in the session. This many videos in all these languages is a lot of work and a lot of organization. Scripts never come out to the same time when translated, so there were lots of compromises in the VO as we went through everything.
Below is the Junior Dos Santos version, which has much more sound design and "dialog." Check out the Ana Ivonovic version, and see all the videos live in the Samsung Facebook app, where all the international versions are hosted in their different languages.

eSalon TV: The internet takes out another industry, funny!
A funny series of TV spots produced by Republic Content and written by SF superstar Jason Headley. Mostly a dialog job with some ambience, but we wanted the frantic stylist to be extra funny, so there's some enhancement on her movements. Always a good time working with these guys. Another spot features a look inside the antiquated brick-and-mortar salon.

Blue Diamond Almonds presents: The US Olympic Ski & Snowboard team
I had the pleasure of mixing this cinematic piece for Blue Diamond Almonds, produced by Jeremy Summer of Y&R San Francisco. I added a good deal of sound design to the excellent work already placed by editor Nathan Petty. It was nice to have some creative freedom on this project. For a corporate video, it is not very sell-y. We got to be very dramatic and emphasize the story and the people rather than the product. Special effects, dreamy sound design and emotional music composition added to the documentary style dialog mix.

Skype: "The Born Friends," lovely and emotional...
When I started mixing this series of videos for SF agency Pereira & O'Dell, I knew right away it was going to be the most emotional piece I've ever worked on to date. It took a few hours of mixing before I could get through it without choking up! We tell a story of two best friends, in Indiana USA and New Zealand, who have never met except over Skype. They both grew up with the same unique life challenges, and so when they finally get a chance to meet in person, well, it's flat-out tear-jerking. The :60 version also appeared on a dramatic episode of the Katie Couric show where Sarah was again surprised by a visit from her best friend Paige live on the show. Technically, the documentary format presents its own audio challenges, mixing audio from tons of different locations and editing dialog from "real people," giving unrehearsed testimonials. A lot of background noise filtering, the subtle addition of ambience sound effects and music balancing. We also earned AdWeek's Ad of the Day on Nov 4, 2013.

Ubisoft: Rocksmith 2014
This is the launch video for Ubisoft's amazing new guitar-training video game. Featuring Alice In Chains rocker Jerry Cantrell, as well as a handful of impressive testimonials. We also mixed individual videos for each of their star pupils: Brian, Trevor, Casey, Jayme, Aaron, Ross, and a concise :60 TV spot.

EA / Battlefield 4: Testimonial Videos - Intense!
These videos were produced by SF agency Draft FCB to promote the upcoming EA release BATTLEFIELD 4. In addition to a long trailer cut for Gamescom in Germany, I mixed a handful of these testimonial videos... and more are on the way! The agency collected the top players of Battlefield 3, and got them together for some brand new combat. All the players seem very excited about the game! We mixed these videos to convey the intensity of gameplay, without compromising the dialog. The intro and outro sounds were designed to also be intense, chaotic, and futuristic.

GE's Datalandia: Stormageddon
San Francisco agency Mekanism is producing this series of amazing work for GE's new campaign, Datalandia. Based around a gorgeous miniature city, the campaign tells the story of GE's future innovations in big data. Because the subjects are all models, the sound design is essential to tell the story, and the mix is totally key in bringing the excitement. With so much happening in the score, balancing out the sound design and voice over was my main focus. Some fancy side-chain compression and multi-band compression helped keep everything nice and loud without losing too much detail.

Quirky.com: Pivot Power
"Quirky" is right! I worked with SF Agency Mekanism on this totally wacky random hilarious spastic ad promoting a new product on the site, Quirky.com. It's definitely refreshing to work on brands that rely on over-the-top humor to build excitement about their company. Obviously, the quick sound design makes all the jokes in the ad.

Skype "Stay Together Stories"
San Francisco agency Pereira & O'Dell took on this great project for Skype, filming both sides of an international video chat and telling the story of people who stay connected over great distances. I mixed the videos for Lindsey and Julie. The Lindsey video is great because of all the Australian animals! For this piece, we actually recorded voice-over from Lindsey and mixed it with her on-camera monologue.

Mike Rowe My Life!
Mike is a regular at One Union Recording. I've recorded his voiceover for hundreds of episodes of Dirty Jobs, Deadliest Catch, and all kinds of commercials, mini-series and specials. Lately he's been producing a ton of content for his thousands of Facebook fans, and now he's got an idea for a new series - Mike Rowe My Life. Inviting his fans to submit their own banal life videos, the theory is that solid VO (and sound design!) can spice up anything. He's already got 10,000 views on this baby in less than a week, and I can be seen in the "making of" video. Definitely had a lot of fun with the sound and music, all original - to essentially mock the over-dramatic Deadliest Catch style. Lots of commenters are giving props to the Wilhelm Scream at the very end! It's nice to be noticed.

Innovator's Accelerator - Online lecture series from University of Phoenix
University of Phoenix produced this amazing online course about the business of innovation, based on long-format videos featuring Clayton Christensen, Jeffrey Dyer, and Hal Gregersen. Tons of amazing 3D graphics were added around the lecturers during their presentation to enhance the topics and make the material more compelling and entertaining! I got to sound design all that animation. I used Xpand2 in Pro-Tools, and also my favorite iPad app - the MOOG Animoog. I produced over 100 sounds for almost 4 hours of video.

Robo-tripping PSA with tons of teenagers barfing
I worked with DDBSF on these amazing PSA videos about the dangers of Robo-tripping, and mixed their Interactive Web Application that incorporates the user's Facebook information (photos, location, friends, music tastes...) into a virtual experience... of getting wasted and barfing all over everyone at a party. Pretty funny spending all week mixing these videos - hundreds of BARF shots, over and over again. I have an iron stomach! The campaign attracted some attention:

Ozgood: Sloppy barfing monster app for iPad!
Yep, there's an app for that. I sound designed and mixed a series of promotional videos for this new app, and they've all done pretty well on Funny or Die. You can find Ozgood in The Apple App Store, and see for yourself what the heck the whole thing is about. Funny videos! Definitely high viral-ability.

American Pet Products Association Web Videos
I mixed these spots for The American Pet Products Association. A good amount of the material they filmed was improvised by these small teams of comedians. So the result was some really funny, dynamic stuff but my work was mainly cleaning up the edits and mixing deliveries from lots of different takes. Check out EVB's story about the campaign, and watch the other spots in the campaign.
